The second annual Dean’s Charity Steer Show is set for Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020, during the Ohio State Fair. All proceeds from the show will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Central Ohio.

The inaugural 2019 event was hosted by Cathann A. Kress, vice president for agricultural administration and dean of The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. It exceeded all expectations when $152,000 was raised for RMHC.

More than 900 spectators attended the charity steer show, held at the Voinovich Livestock & Trade Center, and nearly 8,000 tuned in to watch via live stream on Facebook. Donation amounts ranged from 81 cents to $15,000.

“It is a wonderful event that celebrates agriculture and children, both our 4-H youth as well as youth who benefit from the amazing Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio,” Kress said.

Central Ohio celebrity exhibitors will once again team up with experienced 4-H members and their steers to compete in the show for bragging rights and the three awards of Best Steer, Showmanship, and People’s Choice.

Following the show, an auction “sale” will take place in the show ring. No actual animals will trade hands. Instead, all bids and sale proceeds will be donated to RMHC.

This year’s celebrities and 4-H families will be announced at a later date.

The Dean’s Charity Steer Show is coordinated by CFAES, the Telhio Credit Union, and the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association.
